In the twilight years of the Spring and Autumn period, the Zhou Dynasty crumbled. War and corruption reigned. Laozi fled westward to Hangu Pass, but was detained by a mob. Commander Yin Xi demanded he write down the "mystery of the Way" in exchange for passage. As Laozi lectured, he was mocked. After completing the Tao Te Ching, his provisions were seized. He walked alone into the vast desert sands.

Despite repeated failure, he stole divine soil to build one final levee. When the mountain collapsed and the flood swept all away, Gun took his own life in despair. From his sacrifice, a child cried out: Yu, who would complete what his father began.
